Abstract

 Introduction: the Down syndrome is characterized, among other things, by problems of balance control. There is a variety of treatments to work the balance from the Physiotherapy. Virtual reality is configured as a new tool from pediatric physiotherapy. Objective: verify in the literature the effectiveness of a physiotherapy treatment combined with virtual reality in the improvement of balance in children with Down syndrome. Material and method: a syste-matic review was carried out, searching for articles of interest in the different databases, Medline, Cochrane and PEDro. Studies should include a treatment for balance in people with Down syndrome. Results: the results that were found during the search were 5 articles. Significant differences were found in the comparison of the evaluations before and after the intervention for aspects such as postural control or agility. This seems to be an improvement also in the balance. Conclusions: part of the scientific evidence on the use of virtual reality to improve balance in children with Down syndrome, the most advanced tool is the Nintendo Wii©. Similarly, an improvement in the ba-lance can be seen.
