Abstract

Objectives: the aim of this systematic review was to identify the adherence rate to exercise programmers for pre-venting falls among community-dwelling older, as well as describing the main tools for its evaluation. Material and method: a systematic review following Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses re-commendations was carried out. The main databases in health science were consulted Medline/PubMed, LILACS and IBECS, PSYCINFO, CINAHL, SPORT DISCUS, PEDro, Web of Science and Scielo. Furthermore, to obtain additional articles, the reference list of included studies was also checked. From March to May 2018, randomized controlled trials in English were collected. The selection criteria were elderly dwelling community independent walking, balance and walking training, age equal or over 65 years old. Adherence and walking or balance or falls or physical activity were the variables included. Frail elderly or people with neurological or physical traumas were excluded. Results: a total of six studies was selected with 1439 participants who carried out training of balance and walk. The analyzed variable was always the adherence and walk or balance or falls or physical activity. There was a low rate of adherence and balance and gait improved in most studies. Conclusion: low adherence rate has been observed with a tendency to be higher at the beginning of the program. Developing an objective and validated tool that is not self-administered is needed to measure adherence.
