Background: lumbar spinal stenosis (LSS) is defined as the structural narrowing of the spinal canal, lateral recesses or junctional holes in the lumbar area. It´s a common condition in elderly patients after the fifth decade of life; it is a debilitating pathology that negatively impacts the quality of life of those who suffer from it. Material and method: a re-view of the bibliography was carried out during the month of January 2020 in the following databases: PubMed, Pedro, Embase and the Cochrane Library. The methodological quality of the studies was evaluated using the PEDro scale.
The searches was limited to randomized clinical trials in patients or subjects with lumbar spinal stenosis who received any of the physiotherapy modalities in their treatment, in the last 10 years. Results and conclusion: eight articles are selected for analysis. The results of our study show that Physiotherapy, mainly therapeutic exercise, is effective in reducing the symptoms of lumbar stenosis. Physiotherapy treatment programs are inclined to the use of multimodal therapy, which is what has shown the most beneficial results. New homogeneous studies are needed to demonstrate its efficacy, with a larger sample number and with higher methodological quality.
