Abstract

Introduction: Hypopressive Abdominal Gymnastics (HAG) is based on exercises that activate the pelvic floor (PF) muscles and the abdominal girdle. This muscle recruitment favors the muscle tone of the PF and prevents the appearance of dysfunctions with negative impacts on the physical and psychosocial spheres of women. Ho-wever, these dysfunctions are caused by more than one factor, with different etiologies and consequences, which means that women suffering from any of the PF disorders require optimal treatment for each of these dysfunctions.
bjective: to know the current evidence on the efficacy of HAG in the treatment of PF dysfunctions in women. Ma-terial and method: a bibliographic review of randomized clinical trials (RCT) has been carried out, in 9 databases:
PubMed, PEDRO, Scopus, Web Of Science, Cochrane Library, CINAHL, Dialnet, Cuiden and Clinical Trials, fulfilling the following criteria of inclusion: RCTs, treatment with HAG and studies published in English, French, Portuguese or Spanish. The methodological quality was analyzed with the PEDRO scale. Results: six RCTs were included, the results of which indicate that HAG manages to improve the affected muscle function of PF in women. improvements are observed in resistance, maximum voluntary contraction and decrease in the number of leaks in case of urinary incontinence. Conclusions: the HAG study in the 6 RCTs of this review shows that this gymnastics is effective in PF dysfunctions, especially in prolapses and urinary incontinence in women.
