PRESENCE OF PHYSIOTHERAPISTS IN SPORTS GYMS OF ALMERÍA PROVINCE

Abstract

 A great number of physiotherapists which develop their activity in the welfare area are linked to the diverse activities of the sport world, but we do not know how they distribute within the different areas and places such as clubs, sports centers, private hospitals, … The aim of our study has been to describe the level of inclusion of physiotherapy in the sport's present scene of Almeria’s gyms; the sort of physiotherapy attendances, the resources at disposal, and the acceptance and assessment of physiotherapists by managers and members of the clubs. To carry out the re-search we have used phone questionnaires and interviews. The data show that a 57 % of the places do not have a physiotherapist, in a 14 % of the places the work of the physiotherapist is done by professionals which do not be-long to the sanitary branch, and in a 29 % there is a physiotherapist with his own practice and treating grievous in-juries (ligaments, muscles, tendons,...).These physiotherapists carry out a work of great quality and it is acknowledged by managers and members of the sport clubs; it is also valued their work preventing and recuperating injuries.
