EFFICIENCY OF THE PHYSIOTHERAPY SESSIONS IN THE ACUTE SPRAIN OF ANKLE. A REVIEW OF CLINICAL TRIAL
Keywords:
Ankle, sprain, acute, Physiotherapy.Abstract
Objective: to find the scientific evidence on the efficiency of the Physiotherapy sessions in the acute sprain of ankle. Material and methods: a review of clinical trial was realized in the sprain of ankle analyzing the studies published in scientific articles from the year 1998 in the bases PUBMED, COCHRANE and PEDro. Results: forty-one clinical trials that were treating on the efficiency of the Physiotherapy sessions in the acute sprain of ankle were located, those eleven were analyzed after rejecting other studies according to the criterions of exclusion. The evaluationof effect of the interventions across randomized trials was realized in nine cases and in addition in two cases they were prospect trial. A significant improvement of the injury in some parameter was observed in five of twelve cases as consequence to the treatment of physical therapy applied, though in the majority of the cases always there is improvement of at least a parameter. Conclusion: summarizing the technologies of physical therapy studied: the use of the ultrasound seems to improve only the perception of the pain and not the functionality. The support semirigid and with cords and the ankle brace of the mark Air-Stirrup-Ankle Brace combined with elastic bandage seems to be the most effective of all the external helps that are in use; the rehabilitation with training in the control of the position attitude and the proprioception has positive effects in avoiding new injuries. The exercises supervised com-pared with the traditional treatment don´t contribute any notable advantage. The therapy with laser don´t seems to have any efficiency in these cases
