Abstract

Introduction: postural stability allows individuals to maintain their body’s position, particularly their center of gravity, within the limits of stability and plays an important role in athletes during the performance of sports practice to maintain and control posture in response to external changes. Objective: to determine the characteristics of static and dynamic stability in university athletes from Universidad Autónoma de Manizales who participate in the ASCUN sports tournament. Materials and method: it was a cross-sectional descriptive study with a relational phase, with the participation of 116 university athletes with a mean age of 22.90 ± 7.7 years, who were assessed for stability using a baropodometric platform and a force platform. Results: when comparing the Romberg index by distance according to the type of sport, significant differences were found, p < 0.01, but not for the Romberg index by area; in the same way, differences were found between the variables that make up the stability limit when performing the stability tests with open and closed eyes, p < 0.05. Conclusion: the Romberg Index by distance allows recording the movements of the center of pressure of the athletes with greater trace and discrimination as tremors. And for stability limits, foot-dominant sports decrease balance amplitude, while manual domain sports increase.
