FUNCTIONAL AMBULATION RECOVERY IN ELDERLY PEOPLE S RESIDENCES AND THE CONSEQUENT IMPROVEMENT IN THEIR QUALITY OF LIFE

Abstract

 Objective: the aim of this study is establish how the improvement in the functional ambulation of the elderly people in an old people's home after realize a physiotherapeutic treatment protocol, can generate an increase in their life quality.
 Material and method: we study ten elderly peoples that have in the beginig of our investigation differents situations of physic limitations as stay for a long time in the bed or mov in a wheelchair. We observed the elderly peoples during eight months.
 Design: we value the initially balance of the march and the equilibrium, the dexterity in activities of the daily life and the risk of appearance of ulcers. We implement a physiotherapeutic treatment protocolized and personalized, after the which we register the progression reached in each case in aspects like: muscle and articular balance, neurological stimulation and postural reeducation, of the equilibrium reactions, coordination and fall. The therapeutic objective of our intervention consists on improving the march and with it the functional capacity of the elderly people.
 Results: our results not only corroborate the physical improvement, but also social and psychological of all the residents included in this rehearsal.
 Discussion and conclusions: with this study we have demonstrated the importance of a global position that goes beyond the exclusively physical recovery of the functional march in patient of advanced age since it facilitates an improvement in their quality of life. We consider on the other hand that the proposed intervention protocol can be applied in elderly people with pathologies and very diverse situations.
