Abstract

Aim: some measures of intervention were proposed to reduce the number of physiotherapy sessions missed at Primary Care Centers in 2003. The objective of this study was evaluating the impact of them. Materials and methodology: an improvement group was formed, and the number of sessions missed by patients was calculated in three Primary Care Centers. A control chart was completed to analyze if the variability of the process was under statistical control. This intervention procedure was initiated in January of 2005. The same methodology was used to calculate the second semester 2004 and the period of January-May of 2005. Results: the evolution takes shelter of the averages, expressed in % of sessions not carried out for each room: for the first semester 2004, Los Vélez 13.87, 9.8 Mármol and Albox 10,36; for the second semester of 2004, Los Vélez 12.56, 6.89 Mármol and 5.9 Albox and period January-May 2005, Los Vélez 8.9, 5.04 Már-mol and Albox 3,9. The reduction of absenteeism for physiotherapy sessions which is the object of this study was 32,42 %,48,57 % and 62,35 % respectively. Discussion: there is a reduction of the average of absenteeism in both last periods studied, furthermore in the third period after the initiation of the intervention established measures have been introduced taken place. Conclusions: with the positive results we’ve got it is considered that its extrapolation to other areas could be considered, fomenting the shared knowledge and facilitating the posing of the same problem occurring in other Sanitary Districts
