The chronic pelvic pain syndrome is an unclear concept which is normally located in the abdominal or pelvic areas, remains for over 6 months and may affect the patients´ quality of life. The purpose of our study is to describe the physical therapy procedures used in the treatment of the myofascial originated chronic pelvic pain syndrome in women, whose basis are the results from the reviewed research. The data bases Pubmed, Pedro, The Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews and ENFISPO have been systematically reviewed. We included those studies published between January of 2002 and November of 2007, whose aim was the physical therapy treatment of the myofascial chronic pelvic pain syndrome. Our conclusions are that the different types of physical therapy interventions are effective in the treatment of the myofascial originated chronic pelvic pain syndrome, and that further research needs to be done in order to determine the significance of the physical therapy procedures effects on the chronic pelvic pain syndrome.
