ELECTROMAGNETIC FIELDS GENERATED BY HIGH FREQUENCY CURRENT. INFLUENCES ON PHYSIOTHERAPISTS

The aim of this bibliographical study is to establish the potential health risks from electromagnetic fields in physiotherapists applying high frequency currents. Material and methods: a bibliographical search was carried out in PubMed, Scopus, DePedro and CINAHL for the key word's diathermy, electromagnetic field and Physiotherapy. Results: certain controversy exists among the different studies as to the innocuousness – danger of electromagnetic fields in the application of high frequency currents by physiotherapists. However, the authors reach no firm conclusions and recommend more in-depth study. Discussion: all the studies highlight the importance for physiotherapists, especially during pregnancy, of maintaining a safety distance of 1 – 2 meters from the equipment.
