Abstract

Introduction: the shoulder articular complex is formed by five articulations, amongst which the sternoclavicular can be found. The subclavian muscle is responsible for much of the mobility of this articulation. This muscle limits shoulder mobility due to the presence of trigger points in many cases; therefore, we have focused this paper on this muscle. The treatment procedure employed has been a variant of Jones’ procedure, based on the search of neurological silence by means of pressure on the aforementioned miofascial trigger points. The objective of this investigation is checking the influence of the trigger points of the muscle subclavio in the mobility of the shoulder. Besides, we want to ascertain if the treatment with the Jones technique is favorable. Material and method: analític, longitudinal, prospective and experimental study. The selected sample comprises 25 individuals with shoulder mobility limitation and no recent pathology affecting this articulation. The parameters that have been considered in this research have been flexion, extension, abduction, adduction, internal and external rotation, which have been measured with a goniometer. Results: as regards the analysis of the results, positive data have been obtained in all the parameters, even if the increase in the degree of mobility oscillated depending on the different factors taken into account. This improvement was statistically significant (p < 0.05) except in the abduction. Conclusions: the mobility of the shoulder has improved after treatment of the subclavio with the Jones’ procedure.
