Objectives: the objective of this work is to know if the use of a different strategy of balance postural between young and older people is reflected in the sway and stability analyses. Material and method: descriptive, across and ob-servational study. Participate 101 voluntary subjects of both sexes divided in two groups, young adults (n = 48) and old adults (n = 53), with ages mean 22,40(SD 3,23 years) and 71,73(SD 3,53 years) respectively. Young subjects were recruited among university students, while old subjects from a made list by the Social Services of the City Council of Salamanca. Analysis postural by sway (Lord’s oscilometer) and stability (forces’ platform) registration facts simultaneously. Two tests are included, with open eyes and closed eyes, both a minute of duration. Variables related with antero-lateral and lateral displacements, rectangle´s surface and Romberg’s index are statistic analy-zed. All the evaluations were carried out in the School of Nursing and Physiotherapy of the University of Salamanca.
esults: differences are obtained statistically significant (p < 0.01) among groups in lateral displacement and in rec-tangle’s surface with closed eyes into sway registration. Significant statistically relationships are obtained between couples of sway and stability variables, although, determination’s coefficients are not conclusive. Is not po-ssible determine a good predictive model. Conclusions: parameters evaluated in sway and stability analysis are not tool good to establish a difference among balance strategies carried out by young adults and older adults.
