Abstract

Introduction: from a physiotherapy perspective and accepting the biomedical model, there is a dispute between the absence or presence of relationship and level of contribution of functional factors and clinical determinants of pain, disability and quality of life. The aim of this study was to analyze the relationship between functional and clinical variables among patients suffering from chronic non-specific mechanical low back pain. Material and method: the method used was an analytical cross-sectional design in a community about 49 adults (27 women and 22 men) with chronic non-specific low back pain with a mean age of 39.8 ± 11.2 years, to which they evaluated the physical functions of lumbosacral mobility, strength and endurance of the lumbar extensor muscles and hip, as well as the clinical presentations of pain, level of disability and quality of life related to physical and mental health. Results: the results found a significant negative relationship between mobility and pain (r = - 0.369), between muscle strength and pain (r = - 0.522) and between muscle strength and level of disability (r = - 0.426). According to multiple regression analysis for determining the pain seem relevant to the three physical variables further resistance, but in the determination of the most significant disabilities are mobility and strength. Conclusion: the physical functions contribute significantly to the clinical presentation of back pain, however the relationship between them is poor.
