TEST-RETEST RELIABILITY OF THE TINETTI TEST AND COCURRENT VALIDITY WITH THE BARTHEL ÍNDEX

Abstract

 Objective: to measure the test-retest reliability of the Tinetti test as well as the concurrent validity between Barthel index and Tinetti. To verifity the influence of the aptitude to walk on the functional independence of neurological patients. Material and method: prospective observational study. To perform the study with a sample of eight inpatients residing in the participating center, Home of Great Affected José López Barneo in the province of Jaén. Inclusion criteria were agreeing to participate, presenting some neurological diseases with abnormal gait, be over 20 years of age and belonging to the above-mentioned residence. Each of them spent two scales, the Barthel index as the gold standard and Tinetti test, and each yielded two records with a time separation of 6 weeks between them. Results: the reliability Tinetti was found by calculating the intraclass correlation coefficient values are obtained 0.989.
he reliability of Barthel index was also found with the intraclass correlation coefficient obtaining a value of 1. To assess the concurrent validity, it was obtained by correlation r Pearson that was 0,754 (p < 0.005). Conclusions: the reliability of both tests is excellent. The concurrent validity of the Tinetti test and Barthel index is excellent, then walking aptitude has an influence on the functional independence of neurological patients.
