Abstract

Objectives: the study evaluates the influence of Kinesio® Taping (KT) in the modification of muscle tone, with the help of non-invasive measurement method, tensiomyography (TMG). Material and method: a pre-experimental study was conducted on a group of 10 subjects (6 men and 4 women) not randomly selected and according to exclusion criteria: a) Have acute or chronic muscle disease in the muscles studied; b) Having done physical activity the day of the study; and c) Being left-handed. Two measurements were made (pre-post-treatment) using TMG, to calculate the values of maximum displacement (Dm) and contraction time (Tc) of biceps brachii muscle, of left arm of all individuals. The measurements were made at the National Institute of Physical Education of Catalonia. Between the two measurements pink KT was applied, through a technique in «Y» to tone the biceps brachii muscle, for 60 minutes. Once the data was recorded, statistical analysis was performed using the SPSS processor, which used the Shapiro-Wilk test, as a normality test, and T test for dependent samples, to evaluate statistical significance. Results: we observed an increase in the values of mean of the variables Dm and Tc in the measurement after treatment, which can be correlated with a decrease in muscle tone, however, these results were not statistically significant (p>0,05). Conclusions: the application of KT to tone the biceps brachii muscle, produced no significant changes in muscle tone after 60 minutes of use.
