Abstract

Introduction: pelvic girdle pain during the postpartum period occurs in one out of three women. It is related to the pelvic instability that is caused by static changes in the pregnancy, and it is the main cause of delaying the normal activity. Objective: the evaluation of the Masai Barefoot Technology (MBT®) shoes efficiency for pain decreasing du-ring the postpartum period in this case: 39 years old woman, first labor. The patient describes severe pelvic girdle pain after instrumental labor and type I tear. Material and method: this patient is referred by Hospital Quirón of Madrid. The patient with pelvic girdle pain, didn’t receive another Physiotherapy or pharmacological treatment and without vaginal prolapse. The intervention consists in wearing the MBT® shoes for 9 weeks. The dependent variable is the pelvic girdle pain that will be measured through the VAS (Visual Analogue Scale). The measurements were taken the first day of treatment, the fifth week and the last day of wearing the MBT® shoes. Results: we found an important pain decrease, scores ranging from 7 to 0 in the VAS. Conclusion: MBT® shoes were efficient for pain decreasing, even for a total remission, for this patient during her postpartum period.
