THE PRESSURE ALGOMETER AND DISTANCE FROM TARSAL SCAPHOID TO GROUND AS THE INSTRUMENTS FOR ASSESSING THE EFFECTIVENESS OF PHYSICAL THERAPY: A CASE REPORT

Introduction: the objective of this case report is to show the effectiveness of Physiotherapy through algometer pressure and measuring the distance from the tarsal scaphoid bone to the ground. Case presentation: a study was performed on a woman with pain on both scaphoids on the palpation. Initially, physiotherapy assessment was carried out, consisting of a history, examination of mobility, measuring the distance of the scaphoid bone to the floor, measured pain threshold applying pressure on the scaphoid, and different orthopedic test. Then, the patient was treated in a single physiotherapy session, using techniques of thrust, muscle-energy, muscle stretching, among other therapies. Results: the results show a decrease in the scaphoid- floor distance (27-25 mm and 25-23 mm, respectively in left and right scaphoid), and increased pressure pain threshold. Discussion: this case shows how the pressure algometer and measure the distance from the scaphoid bone to the ground are useful in assessing the effectiveness of Physiotherapy and shows the usefulness of the techniques used in the treatment.
